Key Charms privacy policy
Effective 31 October 2026.
Summary
Key Charms does not collect, sell or share any personal data. It has no account, no analytics, no ads and no internet access: the app does not request Android's Internet permission. Everything it does happens on your phone and over Bluetooth between your phone and your own car.
What stays on your phone
- Your car's Bluetooth identity (its Bluetooth name and address) so the app can reconnect to it.
- Your car's VIN, which you type in. It is needed to sign commands for your car and to recognise your car's Bluetooth name. It never leaves the phone.
- The phone key: a private key generated on your phone and protected by Android's secure key storage. Only its public half is sent to your car during pairing, and only over Bluetooth.
- Car status shown in the widgets (locked/unlocked, doors, battery level, temperatures) as last read from your car over Bluetooth, and your widget settings.
This information is not sent to us or to anyone else. We have no servers that could receive it.
Permissions
- Nearby devices (Bluetooth): to find, pair with and talk to your car.
- Location (only on phones where Android requires it to scan for Bluetooth devices): used only while the app scans for your car. Your location is never read, stored or shared.
Deleting your data
Use "Remove key from this phone" in the app, or uninstall the app; Android deletes all of its data. To remove the phone key from your car as well, delete it in your car's key settings (on Tesla vehicles: Controls › Locks).
Children
Key Charms is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
